Low Carb Diet Foods
If you're new to low carb dieting, finding low carb diet foods might seem like a daunting task. But if you're doing your low carb diet plan the right way (meaning by the book--literally) then you'll have a pretty good idea of what you can and can't have.
Variety is the Spice of Life
If you're following the book that accompanies your low carb diet, you already have a lot of good suggestions for different low carb diet foods. But chances are, as on any diet, the book is going to suggest foods you think you don't like or foods you've never even heard of. Before you write things off just because they're not familiar, try them first. You might be surprised. You might open up a whole new world of foods that you thought you didn't like before just because you've never even tried them.
Most low carb diet foods are foods that are high in protein, like meat, eggs, cheese, protein shakes and protein bars. As good as some of these low carb diet foods sound, chances are you will eventually get bored with them. And that's when people start to stray from their low carb diet plans. The key is to learn what other foods are low carb diet foods. There's anything that's sugar-free (sugar free Jello, Crystal Light, etc.) just for starters. Then there's protein powder that you can combine with low carb milk and berries to make a delicious and filling smoothie every day. The powder often comes in different flavors too, so you can experiment with that a little too.
Another good rule of thumb when it comes to low carb diet food is keeping an arsenal of good low carb recipes. Generally, you can take meat, eggs and cheese and come up with some pretty tasty dishes. There are so many different kinds of meats and cheeses that this isn't as hard as you might think (especially with all the low carb recipes on the Internet and the low carb cookbooks available). If you're a man on a low carb diet, don't be afraid to try a quiche. (Most men think this is "women's food," but it's really not a lot different from a thick omelet, which most men think is acceptable to eat.) Again, this goes back to keeping variety in your low carb diet. Keep it interesting and you'll stick with it longer.
