Carb Counter

Are you a carb counter ? If so, you are not alone. With the popularity of low carb diets, being a carb counter can be detrimental to your health.

Carb Counter

Being a member of the new "carb counter " society can be a little daunting if you aren't sure what you are doing. With all of the hype regarding the newest bad boy of nutrition, the carb, it's hard to know what to do for the best. The latest low carb diets run the gamut from ludicrous to crazy and sometimes contain references to nutritional terms that the average laymen cannot readily understand.

Take, for example, the following testimonial of a young woman who thought that becoming a carb counting junkie was the answer for her.

Carb Counter Beware

"It seemed that everyone was on one form of the diet or another. So, I thought I would jump on the bandwagon. I started reading about the trendy diets and then came across the extreme versions that were posted all over the internet. A friend told me that I had to go into ketosis in order to get the full effects of the diet. I thought for sure he meant a trendy new store on South Beach, and, after looking all over, I found out that ketosis is a term that is big if you profess to be a genuine carb counter. Anyway, it has something to do with an acid that your body has to excrete at the height of fat burning. After a while, I started feeling tired and lethargic. It sounded so easy. I mean, no bread, no carbs, no candy.... God, what was I thinking?"

Candy Johnson

Miami Beach, FL

If you are a carb counter and want to avoid the pitfalls of Candy's experiences, take the time to familiarize yourself with all of the information on good carbs and bad carbs and their effects on the body. You can adopt a low carb version of the diet that will provide the nutritional needs of your daily life. However, be careful; it is easy to fall into the category of going overboard.

Don't let the hype surrounding the Atkin's and South Beach diets lure you into the world of the carb counter society. Remember, your body is a temple that needs essential fuels to function properly. If you are set on being a carb counter then at least be well informed.
